Polaroid 600 Film

Polaroid 600 Film

Do you own a Polaroid 600 camera? At one time, Polaroid cameras were in vogue and many people still own and love their old cameras. Unfortunately nowadays finding film for these beauties is a bit of a task!

Ever since Polaroid introduced its very first instant camera – it was a hit. Pretty soon, not only did many people own Polaroid cameras, but almost all instant photographs were referred to as ‘polaroids’.

Of all of those cameras, the Polaroid 600 series was one of the most popular, which is probably why you own one yourself. Both photography enthusiasts and hobbyists alike enjoyed this particular model mostly because of its ability to produce crisp images with vivid colors and amazing detail.

So why is it that getting Polaroid 600 film is so immensely difficult nowadays? Simple: Polaroid itself (i.e. the company) filed for bankruptcy and no longer exists.

End of Polaroid 600 Film Production

When Polaroid filed for bankruptcy is 2001, it didn’t immediately stop making cameras and film. Instead, production continued for a number of years until in 2008 Polaroid camera production finally ground to a halt and in 2009 film production stopped too.

Needless to say, this caused a lot of worry among avid users of the Polaroid 600!

Honestly the main reason for the downfall of Polaroid is said to be digital photography, which mimics instant photography insofar as people can ‘see’ their pictures as soon as they are taken. That being said enthusiasts insist that it isn’t the same thing and that a picture on a tiny screen of a digital camera is hard to gauge in terms of quality and detail.

Frankly speaking – that much is certainly true and it is evident from the dismay of users across the globe that although digital cameras are highly popular, photography enthusiasts still prefer the instant photography offered by Polaroid.

Obtaining Polaroid 600 Film

Seeing as Polaroid films are no longer in production, you really have two options: Either find other instant photography film that is compatible with your camera – or buy up whatever stock is still available on the market.

Unfortunately if you’re using a Polaroid 600 camera, you don’t have that first option. There are no other compatible instant photography film types available.

So in short – you’d better hurry and try to find as much Polaroid 600 film as you can from various photography shops, fast!

Alternatively you could wait for the Project Impossible results to hit the market. This project essentially involves manufacturing Polaroid 600 type film for consumers, but so far it is only available in black and white film.

But who knows – with so much of a demand for instant photography film, chances are alternatives will emerge soon!

For now though, you should definitely try to find as much cheap Polaroid 600 film as you can. Already prices are rising due to the short supply and high demand – but if you want to get the best prices on the net, have a look at our prices.
